This is www.N3NCY.com -
N3NCY is
my Amateur Radio call sign assigned to me by the FCC in 1992.
(And yes, I know it looks like Nancy, I didn't get to pick it! Ughh..)
My name is Ernie and this is my site!
I hold the highest class Amateur Radio license possible - Extra Class
Ham Radio in some ways is slowly dying out since the Internet makes
world wide communication relatively easy.
The spirit and brotherhood of Amateur Radio lives on with Hams behind
many current technical positions.
And every once in a while the Hams are still called upon to get messages
in and out of emergency locations.
When all hell breaks loose, like
Hurricane Katrina and the
Tsunami
of 2004, Hams step up.
And let's not forget that Amateur Radio operators play a part in many
other useful things like:
Skywarn,
SATERN,
REACT,
Army MARS,
Navy MARS,
Air Force MARS, CAP
and AMSAT
Of course, the yearly "Field
Day" exercise is my favorite depiction of Amateur Radio.
"A contest held the fourth weekend in June every year that promotes
emergency style communication readiness." |
